5/31/05 We have a grass roots effort to stop rezoning on Idlewood Road.  The developer wants to put 32 townhomes on 4.04 acres.  Would it be possible to get our case added to your information?  Also, any help or pointers that you can give would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Jan

6/5/05 The neighbor was not aware of the changes to the zoning and land use plan requested by the developers.  As a result, the Planning Commissioners voted for the application.  By the time it was heard by the County Commissioners,  the  neighborhood had gather support to oppose the application.  There were about 100 people at that meeting and the Commissioners elected to defer for one cycle. The Planning Commissioners will hear the application on Tuesday June 7, 2005. No other details are available at this time. The meeting will be at the Manual Maloof Center.  Call the county for the time of the meeting.

6/22/05 Idlewood Rd. Development

[LP-05-05(18-168) & CZ-05-07((18-168)]

Burrell Ellis, Commissioner
Connie Stocks, Super Commissioner

The Planning Commission approved these applications in April of 2005.

Board of Commissioners Public Hearing took place on Tuesday 04/26/05. The case received a full cycle Deferral. The Board and particularly Commissioner Ellis advised both sides to go back and reach a compromise.

Planning Commission Public hearing was held on 06/07/05. The Planning Commission recommended a deferral to the Board of Commissioners meeting on 6/28/05. The Planning Commission recommended that a mixed-use development would be a suitable compromise.

On Idlewood Rd. in Tucker 4.04 acres have been consolidated and are up for rezoning from R-85 to R-A8 at the 06/28/05 Commissioners meeting. The change in rezoning would take this property from a maximum 4 homes per acre to 8 homes per acre. However, the property currently has a total of only 4 houses. The developer is purposing a 32 unit 2.5 story town-home development and has refused to negotiate density. The development would be located between a 17 unit 2 story town-home development and single family detached ranch homes. Citizens of some 8 low-density single-family detached Idlewood Rd. neighborhoods have banded together to oppose this development. We are worried that if this development is allowed to go forward it will start a domino effect up and down Idlewood Rd. Thus, changing the landscape of our community and our quality of life.

Please help stop this trend of Reckless Rezoning by letting your Commissioners know that Dekalb County residence want smart growth.

We will post your information about community meetings, upcoming zoning and county commissioner meetings as we receive them.
