Lavista Rd to Nalley Circle
Zoning Updates

Gale Walldorff, Commissioner

Kathie Gannon, Super Commissioner

Tuesday July 27th, the Board of Commissioners voted to deny the applications for a change to the Land Use Plan and to rezone from single family R-100 to R-A8.

Thanks to everyone in the community who helped in this major effort !!!

Thank-you Commissioner Walldorff and Commission Yates for your support.

Meetings are held at the Manuel Maloof Auditorium at 1300 Commerce Drive in Decatur.

Three and a quarter acres have been consolidated and are up for rezoning for the May, 2004 cycle.  The requested re-zoning change is from R-100 to RA-8, which means 8 houses per acre.  The math gives you 26 units which is what is drawn on the site plan.  Basically it will look something like "Lavista Proper" which was built directly across the street.  Notice that these are three story attached units, where the front yard is a potted plant on the stairs, the lower floor is almost entirely devoted to cars and the second floor has a deck projecting ten feet into the required rear yard.  There is, however, a big difference between "Lavista Proper" and the proposed development. Lavista Proper is completely surrounded by medium density development, while the proposed development would be completely surrounded by low density zoning.  To the east is a R-100 single family house that will be trapped between two townhouse developments.  To the south are one story ranch houses, again on R-100 lots. To allow this would be another clear example of Reckless Rezoning.

We'd love to have your feedback and comments on these issues.  If you know about any other reckless attempts at rezoning in Dekalb County, we will post them to this website.  If you do not want your comments posted on this website, please let us know. We need your permission to post your name and e-mail address, so please let us know in your comments.
